A Message from Dr. George C. Yen, Chair of the LGBTQ+ Fellowship Consortium Workgroup
The LGBTQ+ community faces significant barriers to accessing safe, affirming and comprehensive medical care across their lifespan. Developing physician leaders across the country with expertise in LGBTQ+ health is a critical step in closing the gap in health disparities. The AMA Foundation National LGBTQ+ Fellowship Program is accelerating the change in transforming LGBTQ+ health training and education by funding institutions to train the next generation of LGBTQ+ health experts and in the process, develop programs that will collaterally reshape the educational landscape for the better. Comprised of program leadership from the fellowship institutions, the convening workgroup’s mission is to develop an infrastructure for LGBTQ+ health curricula that can be shared and disseminated to training programs throughout the country. This goal is best achieved by pooling together our institutional and regional strengths, sharing knowledge and resources, and supporting a forum for stakeholders to come together, collaborate and continuously learn from one another.
