As a result of the charitable support from our donors, the Foundation awarded nearly $1.8 million in 2022 to support medical students, physicians and community health care organizations when they needed it most, including:
Awarded $345,000 in scholarship aid to medical students through the Physicians of Tomorrow Program, promoting diversity in medical education.
In response to the destruction caused by Hurricane Ian and other FEMA-declared disasters, the AMAF and the Florida Medical Association distributed $255,000 collectively through the Disaster Relief Program to assist physicians in rebuilding and reopening practices.
Added Harvard Medical School, in collaboration with Fenway Health, and Vanderbilt University Medical Center to the AMAF National LGBTQ+ Fellowship program.
Granted $100,000 to support the International Medical Corps and Heart to Heart International to address the humanitarian crisis for citizens in Ukraine.
Launched the Health Equity Acceleration Fund by committing $5 million over the course of three years to help further develop AMA projects designed to advance health equity.
Enrolled 10 medical students in the year-long Leadership Development Institute which includes formal mentorship with members of the AMA House of Delegates.
Our corporate, foundation and organization donors allow us to expand our program portfolio. These donors may be eligible to participate in our Roundtable Program. For more information visit our corporate, foundation and organization donors page.
A Qualified Charitable Distribution is an excellent way to support the AMA Foundation and receive tax benefits in return. As you plan your donations for this year, consider using your IRA account to make the most of your charitable giving. You receive a tax benefit even if you take the standard deduction!
