This past June, the American Medical Association (AMA) held a special virtual meeting of its House of Delegates. During the meeting, the community came together to raise $182,596, which was supported by a $50,000 matching gift challenge in support of the Foundation’s Physicians of Tomorrow Scholarship Program from a generous donor. Taking full advantage of the opportunity, $85,685 was donated in support of medical student scholarships.
In addition, the newly established Paul O’Leary, MD Memorial Fund supporting the Underrepresented in Medicine Scholarship surpassed $100,000. Established in May by a group of dedicated physicians, the fund aims to continue the legacy of the late Paul O’Leary, MD, who was passionate about organized medicine and believed strongly in the importance of mentorship for young physicians. These awards recognize physicians who exemplify the highest values of volunteerism, community engagement, leadership, and dedication to the care of underserved populations.
