AMA Foundation Welcomes Donna Bilhorn as Director of Advancement

The AMA Foundation is excited to welcome Donna Bilhorn as its new Director of Advancement. With more than 20 years of experience building strategic partnerships, Donna brings a wealth of expertise in advancing mission-driven organizations and mobilizing support for meaningful change.

In her role, Donna oversees the Foundation’s development, marketing, and communications efforts, helping strengthen partnerships and expand support for programs that advance physician-led innovation, leadership, and public health.

A Career Dedicated to Making a Difference

Throughout her career, Donna has helped organizations build strategic partnerships and secure transformational investments to advance their missions.

Prior to joining the AMA Foundation, Donna held leadership roles at Start Early, where she led national corporate and private foundation partnerships with Fortune 500 companies, leading brands, and institutional supporters.

Her previous experience also includes program and management consulting positions at the World Wildlife Fund and Booz Allen Hamilton, as well as serving as a corporate and foundation partnerships leader at the Global FoodBanking Network, where she advocated for community-led food banks worldwide to alleviate global hunger.

Donna currently serves as a board member for The Balance Project. She holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom and a Bachelor of Arts from Brandeis University.

A Personal Connection to the Power of Medicine

For Donna, the AMA Foundation’s mission resonates on a deeply personal level. Born prematurely at just 28 weeks, Donna credits the lifesaving care and expertise of physicians and health care teams for helping her thrive today.

Now, as a member of the “sandwich generation,” Donna balances caring for young children and aging parents, giving her firsthand appreciation for the importance of partnering with physicians through every stage of life.

These experiences have strengthened her personal connection to the AMA Foundation’s mission and the importance of supporting physicians throughout their careers.
