Commonly Asked Questions
-
We ask that mentors contact their mentees monthly, at a minimum – whether that be by email, zoom, or phone. Quarterly, we will ask for mentees to provide feedback on these interactions. There will also be mentor-mentee events at the AMA Annual Meeting in Chicago, and we ask everyone to attend that are able.
-
Reviewing applications is done completely online through the AMA Foundation’s application portal. The review process typically happens over the course of a few weeks, and should take approximately 5-10 hours total, depending on the volume of applications.
-
The Foundation will work closely with you about what hosting an event looks like for you. Whether in-person or virtual, the Foundation will be there step-by-step with resources and suggestions to help make your event a success!
“As the first in my family to pursue a medical career, I often felt overwhelmed and intimidated. I struggled to find a mentor I connected with – someone who shared similar interests, forged a unique career path, and remained eager and excited to work with a new generation of physicians. That was all true until I met Dr. Heine.”
