The AMA Foundation

LGBTQ+

Health Program

By convening leaders in health care, the LGBTQ+ community, medical education, community organizations, and other stakeholders, the AMA Foundation works to address persistent gaps in care affecting LGBTQ+ individuals. Our vision is to ensure all LGBTQ+ people receive high-quality, compassionate, and affirming care.

“Now more than ever, we need to equip the next generation of physician leaders in LGBTQIA+ health with the skills to provide comprehensive and affirming care for all LGBTQIA+ populations, across the lifecycle, with a focus on serving marginalized LGBTQIA+ communities.”

- Jennifer Potter, MD, professor of medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School; director of the LGBTQIA+ Population Health Program and co-chair at The Fenway Institute

More about

The LGBTQ+ Fellowship

The National LGBTQ+ Health Program represents the AMA Foundation’s commitment to promoting optimal health outcomes for all and transforming care for LGBTQ+ communities. This pioneering initiative strengthens the pipeline of culturally competent physician leaders by supporting advanced clinical training, expanding inclusive medical education, and driving institutional change. By investing in future physicians who are equipped to lead with both clinical excellence and cultural humility, the program is helping to build a health care system that is more inclusive.
