About the Consortium

The AMA Foundation’s LGBTQ+ Health Program engages leading medical schools, healthcare organizations, professional societies, community partners, HIV service organizations, and philanthropic stakeholders to build a national collaborative dedicated to advancing LGBTQ health within academic medicine.

Our vision is to ensure all are treated with the highest standard of care, empathy, and dignity while having access to the best possible outcomes. Our goals are to:

  • Strengthen education, clinical care, research, workforce development, and health equity initiatives nationwide.

  • Create lasting infrastructure through phased implementation and sustained cross-sector collaboration.

  • Prepare future healthcare leaders to address evolving healthcare needs.

Convening Overview

Our annual convening brings together leading institutions to directly tackle LGBTQ+ health disparities. The two-day event engages hundreds of America’s most influential medical professionals in co-creating vital tools and fostering collaboration among leading health programs to transform health care for LGBTQ+ individuals. The convening represents a unique opportunity to engage in deep discussions, exchange knowledge, and collaborate to shape the future of LGBTQ+ health care.

The 2027 consortium convening will take place in the heart of downtown Chicago. Building on the success of our past events, the 2027 gathering will feature multiple educational tracks, presentations by celebrated advocates and renowned experts in LGBTQ+ health, program directors from grantee award sites, and AMA leadership.
