What drew you to the AMA Foundation and to this role?
The importance of the AMA Foundation’s mission. It supports physicians at critical points in their journey and extends their impact into communities that need care the most. That focus aligns closely with my career. For more than 20 years, I’ve led organizations centered on health and access to care, and I’ve seen how strong support systems change outcomes for both providers and patients.
How would you describe your experience so far?
The first two months have been energizing. I’ve focused on listening and learning, spending time with staff, board members, donors, and AMA colleagues to understand what’s working well and where we can sharpen our focus. There’s a strong foundation here, with committed stakeholders, respected programs, and real impact already in motion.
What has stood out to you most about the AMA Foundation’s work?
The direct connection between the AMA Foundation’s work and real outcomes in people’s lives. When you support a medical student, you’re not just funding education. You’re helping shape where that physician practices, who they serve, and the kind of care communities receive for years to come.

For those less familiar with the AMA Foundation, how would you describe its impact?
We invest in people who shape the future of health care. Scholarships help students stay on their path and reduce financial pressure at a critical time. Our Leadership Development Institute helps physicians grow beyond clinical expertise and become effective leaders. Our community focused efforts expand access to care and address gaps that affect outcomes nationwide.
Why does the AMA Foundation’s mission resonate with you personally?
I’ve seen what health care means for a family, my family. My mother has lived for decades with juvenile onset diabetes, and my grandfather battled multiple sclerosis when treatment options were limited. Those experiences shaped how I see the role physicians play in people’s lives and guided my career. When physicians are supported, patients and families feel it in real ways.
Looking ahead, what excites you most about where the AMA Foundation is headed?
The opportunity to grow and diversify how the AMA Foundation is funded so we can scale our impact. There’s real potential to expand support beyond traditional health care and pharmaceutical partners. Large employers all have a stake in a strong physician workforce and healthier communities, creating opportunities for new partnerships that align business interests with public health.
